Blog #4: Project Reflection and Working EQ

Working EQ:
The Pentagon
1) Positive Statement: So far a positive thing that has happened is, I helped raise money for Foster Kids.  With funding being so low by the government nowadays, this made a huge positive difference, and hopefully an impact on a child's world.  The experience of contacting coordinators and speaking publicly to strangers also gives me some skills that I will need in the future.  Also, from researching my topic so much so far, I have more knowledge about what I may have a career in, in the future.

2) EQ Content: A common issue that I found out about through my interview and research is money.  Of course, money is a problem for almost everyone in the economy but, foster care is funded very poorly by the government.  Therefore they cannot afford the good quality of group homes or programs for released kids, or supplies, this helps in unsuccessful children leaving foster care.  I can mostly understand the children's circumstances now and know what I need to do to try and help them.

3)  So far in the senior project the research checks have worked for me because, it forces me to actually  go in depth and really learn my topic.  I have found out many different opinions that people have about foster care, laws, statistics, realities, and history. I definitely feel more secure about my topic.

4) So far the mentorship has not worked that well for me.  I have had some trouble contacting organizations to be my mentor, and when I get ahold of them they tell me i'm too young to volunteer or they hardly have volunteer opportunities, not enough for my needed hours.

5a) A question that keeps on edging a way into my brain would be, "How does a social care worker know what path to take with each child she comes across?" or "Where does the donation money actually go, what does it pay for specifically?" maybe, "What living condition are the group homes in?"

b) My end of the year goal for my senior project is to collect at least 10 sponsorships, that will go towards the Children's Foundation of America.  I will get the monthly donations from different companies.

c) I would love to be able to talk to a social worker and get as much information out of them as possible.  Because, when I spoke to my other interviews they kept avoiding some questions, or did not know too much about a lot of my topics and, frequently they told me a social worker would know the information better.  The job of a social worker is much more difficult because, they have to make the hard decisions that effect the child's life directly. These are the reasons of why I would choose to talk to a social worker.
