Literal Know:

-I have volunteered for the Children's Foundation of America. So far I have completed twenty service hours at the Ontario Mills mall, where I stood at one of the booths and passed out flyers and gave information to passing shoppers. The booth was established to collect donations of clothes, school supplies, or money. Which will be given to foster care children. Although the rest of my hours I will most likely be doing with a different organization, Dave and Margaret Association.

Literal Need To Know:

  • Why are so many people oblivious to the little things they can do to help others?
  • In completing the last hours of mentorship, will I be more involved with the children directly?
  • Will I be persuaded to pursue a career in a field of foster care?

-When I spoke to strangers on my own, without supervision of the foundation watching over my shoulder, all the knowledge about the issue at hand had to come from me, and confidently. This soon brought out confidence in what I was doing and I had to step out of my box in order to assist in helping with a world issue. That is the most important thing that I learned and realized, from the experience. :)

-I already knew what my topic was going to be, my hours only supported the decision. I wanted to help people so I chose Foster Care. One of the main reasons I have for sticking with the topic, was when an actual foster care teen ,who got adopted, came up to me and told me that he was a foster care child. He really appreciated us doing the fundraiser, and I had a renewed wanting to being there, even after hours of standing.
